Frequently Asked Questions

What equipment do you use?
I use a Nikon D3500 Digital Camera with a variety of lenses, most notably a zoom lens.I always have my Iphone with me for unexpected and unplanned photo opportunities. For commissions and special projects I secure additional photographic gear as needed.

What is on your wish list for equipment?
I would like a Nikon D5 sports camera with a state-of-the art telephoto lens. I am also keen to get a high quality mirrorless camera but only when the technology advances.

What aspect of the photography process do you enjoy most?
I enjoy the entire digital photography process  – from planning photo shoots and heading to the location, composing the image, processing the photographs, and enhancing the image using special editing software and filters. I normally have a glass of California Chardonnay by my side while working in my studio at night which counters the tedium processing a typical photo shoot of 200-300 hundred images in the quest for a few special photos. No doubt some of my abstract photography is a result of one two many glasses of wine…

What are your aspirations regarding your photography?
I derive great satisfaction from the approval of fellow photographers, artists, and friends. As I transition from my tour business I would like to continue working in the travel industry as a commercial travel photographer and writer. My dream is to work on some National Geographic photo shoots at exotic spots around the world. And I would like to get involved with aerial photography utilizing drones and shots from planes and helicopters.

What destinations are you planning to visit?
I would like to photograph the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis. In addition, spots of special interest include Iceland, Greenland, South Africa, Machu Picchu, and the Galapagos Islands.

Why do you use the name Lewis Sommer Photography?
Since I don’t like my given name and wanted to separate my tour business from my photography business I decided to use a pseudonym, a ‘nom de photographe.’ The name Lewis Sommer Photography derives from my middle name Lewis and my maternal grandmother’s maiden name Sommer.

Are you available for special jobs?
Freelance photo assignments and commercial commissions are welcome.

How to purchase my photographs?
Signed photos can be purchased upon request. Images can be purchased online at Fine Art America (see below). The images can be purchased on Fine Art America as framed, canvass, metal and acrylic prints, and a variety of option options include T-Shirts, Tote Bags, Yoga Mats, Pillows, Shower Curtains, and Coffee Mugs.
